His primary research area is Toxicology, with a special interest in the field of drugs of abuse.
Over the past 33 years, Félix Carvalho has co-authored more than 500 scientific articles and book chapters and co-edited the books “Toxicologia Forense“, "Toxicologia Fundamental” e “Toxicologia Alimentar (no prelo)”.

Graduated in Pharmaceutical Sciences, with a PhD in Toxicology, and Full Professor of Toxicology at the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Porto (FFUP), currently holding the following positions:
- Head of the Toxicology Laboratory at FFUP.
- Former President of EUROTOX (Association of European Toxicologists and European Societies of Toxicology).
- Former President of the Portuguese Society of Pharmacology.
- President of the Northern Regional Section of the Portuguese Pharmacists’ Association.
- Full member of the Academy of Pharmaceutical Sciences of Portugal.
- Member of the Academia Europaea.
- Member of the Medicines Evaluation Committee at INFARMED.
- Associate Editor/Editorial Board Member of several scientific journals in the fields of Pharmacology, Toxicology, Addiction, and Pharmaceutical Sciences.
