BIO

- Specialist in Forensic Sciences, particularly in the field of Forensic Toxicology, conducting scientific and academic work in the areas of Toxicology and Pharmacology of psychoactive substances, pesticides, and pharmaceuticals, addressing their preclinical, clinical, and forensic aspects. His work also extends to Legal Medicine, notably in the development of mathematical models for calculating the postmortem interval, known as the Holy Grail of Forensic Sciences
- Graduated in Pharmaceutical Sciences in 2003 from the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Porto, where he also completed a PhD in Toxicology in 2007.
- In 2008, he was awarded the European Doctorate Title by Rectoral Order
- In 2009, he completed the Advanced Course in Legal Medicine (currently the Specialisation Course in Forensic Expertise) at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Porto (FMUP)
- In 2012, he obtained the Habilitation in Forensic Sciences at FMUP
- Author of over 220 published articles (garnering more than 5,000 citations) in international, peer-reviewed indexed journals, as well as approximately 40 book chapters, 4 books, and 4 national patents and 3 international patents
- Some of these publications have received awards across various fields, including the publication of his curriculum summary in an international scientific journal
- Listed in the World’s Top 2% Scientists in 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024 — a ranking of the world’s most cited scientists

- Member of several Academic Management Bodies, including the Pedagogical, Scientific, and Management Councils of the University Institute of Health Sciences (IUCS-CESPU)
- Member of the Founding Committee for the accreditation process of the Integrated Master’s Degree in Medicine at IUCS-CESPU
- Member of the Monitoring Committee for the 2nd and 3rd Cycles of Studies in Forensic Sciences at the University of Porto (UP) and the Specialisation Course in Personal Injury Assessment Post-Trauma at FMUP
